Nonna’s Cucina: Grandma’s Kitchen

My family’s heritage includes multiple regions of Italy including Apulia, Abruzzi and Campania. As I explored my heritage I wanted to experience more. This began my path to authentic Italian recipes, as well as Italian history and traditions. i.e. The Feast of the Seven Fishes, how each region had their own traditions, homemade Limoncello, homemade pasta, when tomato met pasta and the many types of pasta and Italian sauces. Did you know coffee originated in the Ottoman Empire? The first coffee cafe was in the sultan's palace. There are many more interesting historical facts regarding how coffee came to America, History of Espresso and Tea and the best way to make them. Many recipes are my original recipes as well as authentic recipes from Italian families, Italian publications and Regions of Italy and Sicily. I also included the many types of pasta and their origins, many great cookie recipes and delicious Italian desserts. Since I started this book for my children you will find some comfort food recipes I made for them as children. I hope you enjoy my journey. I am currently working on a supplement book that will include many household hints and substitutions.
